Longevity seekers, don’t be fooled by news headlines that now talk about reversing aging in living cells with synthetically created molecules.
Anti-aging researchers are lauding themselves for reversing aging in living cells. One researcher said: “When I saw some of the cells in the culture dish rejuvenating I couldn’t believe it. The old cells were looking like young cells. It was like magic.” (Readers can now offer applause.)
Researchers are talking about restoration of something called splicing factors that facilitate the prolongation of telomeres, those end caps on chromosomes and delay or even reverse cells from becoming senescent – the cells stop dividing and replicating. Synthetic compounds were reportedly used to reduce cell senescence by up to 50%.
Precisely what were researchers using to accomplish this breakthrough? Compounds called AP39, AP123 and RT01. OK, got it, whatever they are.
In another recent experiment investigators injected senescent cells into young mice, which resulted in the animals become old before their time (slowed their walking speed, treadmill endurance, reduce grip strength and daily activity).
Last year (2017) collaborators writing in Nature Magazine called these senescent cells “zombie cells” – cells that wont’ die, divide and renew themselves. They showed that removal of senescent cells forestalled the ravages of aging. “Just by removal of senescent cells you could stimulate new tissue production,” said one researcher.
These senescent cells then begin to belch out inflammatory proteins, wreaking havoc all over the body. Since senescent cells are larger than younger cells, one investigator postulates these senile cells could be filtered out. Of course that would be like putting everybody on kidney dialysis.
So in this shell game called science, the three shells hide AP30, AP123 and RT01 molecules. That are they? One news report calls them “resveratrol analogues,” that is molecules look like the red wine molecule resveratrol.” By the way, AP probably stands for apigenin, a molecule that naturally found in parsley, red pepper and other fruits and vegetables and is similar to resveratrol.
Another news report says these molecules provoke the production of hydrogen sulfide gas inside living cells. Both resveratrol and garlic generate hydrogen sulfide.
This is the slickest shell game going. Make patentable synthetic drugs to profiteer and make them prescription only so the public won’t think they can do this at home without all the doctoring.
So what actually drives living cells to grow old and become senescent? Time alone (ticks on a clock) just measure aging, they obviously don’t cause aging.
This author has long postulated that aging is caused by the progressive accumulation of iron, copper and calcium after full childhood growth is achieved. This overmineralization theory of aging stands uncontested. Not surprisingly, researchers report that iron accumulates in living cells up to 30-fold greater concentration over time and is attached to an iron storage protein called ferritin. Actually, researchers found cell senescence precedes iron accumulation and subsequently ferritin is degraded which results in iron release. Loose unbound iron then increases oxidation and shortens telomeres.
Hydrogen sulfide gas, aka “volcano gas,” has been reported to prevent cell senescence for some time now. This is nothing new.
Three years ago hydrogen sulfide gas was called “the next potent preventive and therapeutic agent in aging and age-associated diseases.” Given that blood plasma levels of hydrogen sulfide decline with advancing age (between 50-80), supplementation with garlic and resveratrol is posed to turn old senescent cells to their youthful state again. This can be accomplished at any age.
Garlic, more so its primary active ingredient allicin, generates hydrogen sulfide, which can be used to standardize garlic supplements. This gas is immediately utilized to relax blood vessels and promote healthy blood circulation and blood pressure control. Resveratrol works in a similar manner. Buyer beware, most garlic pills do not yield allicin.
It is noteworthy to mention that calorie restricted diets, demonstrated to double the lifespan and healthspan of lab animals, also generate hydrogen sulfide gas like garlic does.
Under which shell is the real anti-aging pill? Don’t hold your breath waiting for a hydrogen sulfide inducing drug. Try alkalinized garlic capsules protects from harsh stomach acid to assuredly deliver allicin, its primary ingredient compared to other garlic pills; and resveratrol that is micronized and microencapsulated to laboratory-grade product.
