| JUST UNCOVERED - - SECRETS OF RESVERATROL IN PROTECTING HEART, BRAIN TISSUES, REVEALED

University of Connecticut Researchers report that resveratrol, a red wine molecule, works to precondition and protect the heart from future adverse events (heart attacks, strokes, oxygen deprivation) by activating natural defense mechanisms. Resveratrol actually subjects the heart “to a therapeutic amount of stress.” Researchers Dipak K. Das, PhD and Nilanjana Maulik PhD, say that resveratrol “fulfills the definition of a preconditioning compound” and “may deliver on the promise for a pharmaceutical preconditioning agent.” [Molecular Interventions, February 2006]
In December of 2005 researchers at the University of Miami School of Medicine reported that resveratrol also preconditions brain tissues against states of oxygen deprivation, such as during a stroke, this preventing damage to irreplaceable brain cells.
