Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, Targeting Class III Histone Deacetylases (HDACs), Raises $27M Series B Financing

Waltham, MA ---- March 7, 2005 ----- Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company focused on class III histone deacetylases (HDACs), also known as sirtuins, announced today that it has secured $27M in new financing. The upround was led by new investor Three Arch Partners and colead Cargill Ventures, and included Novartis Bioventures Fund. Also participating in the financing were all current investors, including founding investor Polaris Venture Partners, Techno Venture Management, Cardinal Partners, Skyline Ventures, and The Wellcome Trust.

“This financing is a testament to the enormous promise of class III HDACs as drug targets and the strength of our team at Sirtris,” said Christoph Westphal, CEO and co-founder of Sirtris. “We are thrilled to partner with our new investors Three Arch, Cargill Ventures and Novartis Bioventures Fund, as we develop novel therapeutics.”

Added Sirtris Director, Richard Pops, “Sirtris continues to solidify its position as a leading class III HDAC company. The current financing will accelerate the development of drugs in a number of critical therapeutic areas.”
